The French defense procurement agency has awarded the Thales Group a contract worth €110 million to produce the first version of the C3M mobile command and control centre, which is the deployable component of France's Air Command and Control System (SCCOA)

Tuesday March 5, 2002

The existing system will be completely renovated under the new contract to strengthen the French Air Force's air command and control capability in external theatres of operations, where allied forces may be required to conduct joint air operations. The objective for C3M is to achieve a high level of interoperability and to enable France to assume the role of "framework nation" in future multinational engagements.

The new contract covers system prime contracting and implementation, including planning, programming, and command and control.
The procurement agency's aeronautical systems department (SPAé) selected ThalesRaytheonSystems as prime contractor, in partnership with Thales Communications, on the basis of a definition study carried out under competitive contract. Thales Communications has responsibility for the communications subsystem.
This latest success comes after several years of studies and developments by ThalesRaytheonSystems to meet both French Air Force and joint forces requirements, and further consolidates the Thales Group's position on the SCCOA programme.
