FULLERTON, Calif., (Nov. 10, 2004). Thales RaytheonSystems (TRS) Company has been awarded a $13.1 million dollar firm-fixed price contract by the U.S. Army Air and Missile Command for the production and integration of more than 20 AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel Radar Modernization kits. The AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel Radar is a highly mobile, ground based, air defense radar that automatically detects, tracks, identifies, classifies and reports airborne targets to supporting weapons systems for engagements of hostile targets. The kits will provide the Sentinel Radars with increased detection and acquisition ranges, improved target classification and greater detection of smaller targets in both clear and cluttered environments. This is the second contract for modernization kits awarded to TRS in the past two years as the U.S. Army continues to move forward with implementation of its P3I (pre-planned product improvement) program for the Sentinel Radar.

SEROS II (Semmerzake Radar Operating System # 2), Belgium’s new military air traffic control system, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday March 9, 2004. The system has been operating at the Semmerzake control center since October 2003, controlling military airspace over Belgium and Luxembourg—one of Europe’s densest air traffic regions.
Florako, the Swiss air forces’ new air defense and air operations command-and-control system, went live at the start of February.

After a competitive bidding process, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense & Air forces have awarded ThalesRaytheonSystems a contract to supply a turnkey system that includes a radar, detection and control centre, and communications and power systems. The system will be based in eastern Indonesia.

ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) Company has been awarded a $22.3 million dollar firm-fixed price contract to provide the Battle Control System (BCS) Fixed, Spiral 1 for the United States Air Force. The BCS program will provide the replacement system for the current Regional Air Operations Center/Air Defense Sector (RAOC-ADS) delivered in 1984 by Hughes Command and Control Systems, Fullerton, Calif., which is now ThalesRaytheonSystems Company . The BCS Fixed (BCS-F), Spiral 1 program will provide fixed site installations at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and Pacific Command commanders with an interoperable, open-architecture air defense command and control platform in support of ORAD’s Homeland Defense Mission. The contract includes $7.7 million in options for installation of BCS at four additional sites. Future options are included for the spiral development of BCS, including its use in the mobile Control and Reporting Centers (CRCs), often referred to as BCS Mobile BCS-M). Total funds for the contract have been obligated by the contracting activity, Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. The new contract involves further work to enhance reliability of the system and communications architectures of the Control and Detection Centres (CDC). This will improve France's air defence capability, reducing the number of CDCs from six to four and accommodating their future development within the ACCS programme. ThalesRaytheonSystems and its co-contractors will deploy new-generation Visu 5 display consoles at the CDCs at Drachenbonn, Cinq-Mars-la-Pile and Mont-de-Marsan to replace earlier-generation Visu 3 and Visu 4 consoles, as well as associated communication systems.

The existing system will be completely renovated under the new contract to strengthen the French Air Force's air command and control capability in external theatres of operations, where allied forces may be required to conduct joint air operations.
