Michel Mathieu is Chief Executive Officer of ThalesRaytheonSystems.

Founded in June 2001, ThalesRaytheonSystems is the global defense industry’s only structural joint venture equally owned by two industry leaders, Thales and Raytheon.

With sales of $700M in 2005, over 80% of which were made internationally, the company is a worldwide leader in air defense command and control systems and ground-based radars.

The company’s 1400 employees are equally split between its two sites at Massy, near Paris, France and Fullerton, California, USA.

Prior to his current position, Mathieu was Chief Operating Officer of the Thales Air Systems Division, appointed when it was created in 2004. Before this, he was the Senior Vice-President of Thales Air Defense Business Group.

His involvement in ThalesRaytheonSystems started in 2003 when he was appointed Chairman.

In 1997, Michel Mathieu was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the joint-venture between Thales and Siemens to merge their Air Traffic Management businesses. As such, he was instrumental in combining the assets of the two parent companies.

Mathieu joined Thales in 1977 as a development engineer and later moved on to work on Program Management, Marketing & Sales and Business Development assignments in the fields of Air Traffic Management, Battlefield Surveillance and Air Defense.

He holds a doctorate in Computer Science from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST), Paris.
